Dr. Brady Flinchum

Hi, I’m Dr. Brady Flinchum (he/him) — a geoscientist with a deep curiosity about the Earth’s surface and the hidden stories beneath our feet. I explore the Critical Zone (CZ) — that fascinating layer stretching from treetops to bedrock, where life, water, and rock interact in complex and beautiful ways. My research uses near-surface geophysical methods to uncover how regolith forms and evolves, helping us better understand the physical and chemical processes that shape landscapes over time. I’m especially passionate about shallow seismic refraction, but I also work with tools like GPR, seismic reflection, DC resistivity, and nuclear magnetic resonance to build a more complete picture of the subsurface. I’m always learning, always listening, and always looking for new ways to connect ideas across disciplines. I believe that by sharing stories and experiences, we grow not just as researchers and teachers, but as people.

Thanks for stopping by — I hope you find something here that sparks your curiosity! I am also trying something where I keep this blog on GitHub so that I can post interactive figures and the code associated with my publications.
